OUR STORY

our

STORY

miniME is a nonprofit, student-led social enterprise empowering young children with disabilities by showing them that they are being represented in our society.

Toys are always there to comfort us and playing with them throughout one’s childhood greatly influences the child’s self-esteem.

The characters that we have designed are ____,_____, and ____. These characters reflect the different types of common physical disabilities today by

Inspired by Amy Jandrisevits’ A Doll Like Me, we hope to create a community where disabled children can “look into the sweet face of a doll and see their own”.

Our purpose is to increase the representation of the disabled community among children’s toys by designing, creating, and donating plushies  to disabled children that look just like them.

We hope to offer these young children comfort and confidence in themselves while reducing the stigma against people with disabilities in our society at the same time.

how can you be involved?

Other than the customized dolls for our friends, you can also purchase our dolls that are designed and made by our members. These toys are inspired by Toy Like Me where they’re just like regular everyday toys but designed to represent disabled people. By selling these products, we hope to increase acceptance of disabled people in the non-disabled community as well.

During our trip to Camillian Home, we visited the art room which was like a blank canvas covered in the vivid colors and children’s paintings. At the corner, we noticed one young girl who was smiling happily as she watched the other students do their artwork. Her name is Fahsai, and she is currently 13 years old. She has been living with the condition cerebral palsy for her entire life which leads to other health complications as well.

Even though her disability physically restricts her from moving around and walking, she is an optimistic and bright child. Since being helped by one of the fathers who brought her to Camillian Home from an orphanage in Pattaya, she has been receiving love and care from the caretakers and her friends here.

donate

On our Build Me page, you will be able to donate a certain amount of money that will go towards covering the cost of production of the doll and the rest of the donations will ultimately be donated to financially help these children with their needs.

Each child has his or her own unique story. Please visit Our Friends section to read about each of the lovely children that miniME works with from all over Thailand. In each of their articles, we will be able to learn more about them and how their designs have been customized to fit their character.

These children are also in need of financial support (whether it would be for operations, medical support, etc be more specific), and this is where your donations will be used for.

SHARE

Even during the time of COVID-19 where people are advised to socially distance themselves, raising awareness through online platforms is one effective way to be involved. Feel free to share our miniME accounts (_____) or the stories of our friends on your social media feed.
